How Can Energy Efficient Decisions Benefit the City and its Residents?

Senior's Utility User Tax Exemption

Seniors living in the limits of the City of Salinas, California are eligible for a tax break on some of their utility bills. The five to six percent utility users' tax (UUT) is levied on the consumption of electricity, water, telecommunications and some TV services. Salinas residents aged 65 or higher are exempt from paying it.

To apply for the exemption:

  • Download the short application form, linked below.
  • Fill in the form and print it.
  • Mail or deliver the form and a copy of most recent utility bill to the City Finance Department (the contact info is on the form).
