We’re incredibly proud to share that our very own Captain/Paramedic Nick Thomas has been named the 2025 Monterey County Firefighter of the Year by the Monterey County Fire Chiefs Association!

Since 1982, the Monterey County Fire Chiefs Association presents annual awards to persons who have distinguished themselves among their peers and to their organization as individuals who have gone above and beyond the call - demonstrating exceptional skill, character, and achievement worthy of special recognition. Captain Thomas doesn’t just meet that standard - he lives it. Through his steady leadership, compassion for those we serve, and unwavering commitment to his crew and community, he embodies the very qualities this award was created to recognize!

Captain Thomas is absolutely well deserving of this honor, and we are proud to have him represent the best of the SFD in this second year-in-a-row honor for our department. He will receive his formal recognition at the second annual Monterey County Fire Service Honors Night, held at the Embassy Suites in Seaside on Saturday, April 18, 2026. All fire service personnel active and retired are encouraged to attend this great event and more information will be available in the coming days.
