The City of Salinas has a number of advisory boards and commissions, each with distinct responsibilities. The primary purpose of these Boards and Commissions is to advise the City on specific policy areas.

In compliance with the requirements of the Maddy Act, California Government Code Section §54972, the following appointment list of the City of Salinas’ Commission, Board and Committee members is posted on an annual basis by December 31. The City of Salinas encourages residents to apply for positions in efforts to build an applicant pool representative of the entire community.

The Airport Commission studies and makes recommendations to the City Council on all matters relating to the technical operation, sale, lease, rental, improvement, development, and beautification of the Airport's facilities and buildings.
The purpose of the Finance Committee is to consider and make policy recommendations on the City’s operating and capital improvement budget and other fiscal matters.
The Grievance Board serves as a fair and impartial hearing body for City employee grievances and disciplinary actions. The Board meets on an as needed basis.
The Board makes recommendations to staff and to the Planning Commission and City Council regarding the designation, preservation, alteration, and demolition of local historic resources.
The Library and Community Services Commission makes recommendations to the Library and Community Services Director on the library collection development policy and other policies and advises the council and city manager on the promotion and planning of a comprehensive and adequate recreation-park program for the city.
The Measure E Oversight Committee serves as an oversight committee for the revenue that the city receives from the tax enacted by the measure.
The Measure G Oversight Committee is responsible for reviewing the City auditor's report and issuing a public report to the City Council on the receipt of revenue and expenditure of the Measure G funds.
The Planning Commission provides direction to the staff and may approve, conditionally approve or disapprove applications for Conditional Use Permits which do not meet the criteria for consideration by the Housing & Community Development Director.
The Police Community Advisory Committee reviews and makes recommendations on Police Department policies, procedures, enforcement, and community relation strategies. The committee also discusses problems and strategies for appropriate enforcement in specific neighborhoods.
The Public Art Commission reviews proposed public art and public art projects and make recommendations to the City Council.
The Traffic and Transportation Commission makes recommendations regarding improvements to traffic flow and safety on City streets, locations of traffic control devices, speed zones, and traffic islands.
