As students head back to school, it is important to remember that Boronda Rd and McKinnon St are experiencing ongoing construction. With increased traffic, construction activity, and children walking, it’s more important than ever to stay alert and drive safely. To ensure safety in construction zones during the back-to-school season, please be aware of the following:

Drivers and Parents:

  • Reduce Speed: Always obey posted speed limits, especially in school zones and construction areas.

  • Watch for Signs: Pay attention to construction zones and other roadside signs that may indicate changes in traffic patterns, parking or speed limits.   Please make sure you do not park in a way to impede construction equipment or work.

  • Stay Alert: Look out for flaggers, construction workers and equipment. Be prepared for sudden stops or detours.

  • Avoid Distractions: Keep your focus on the road and your surroundings.

  • Maintain Safe Distances: Follow at a safe distance to allow for sudden stops, especially in construction zones and other areas with children.

Pedestrians and Students:

  • Stay Away from Construction Sites: Pedestrian and children should not walk, run, ride or play in construction zones, around construction equipment or storage sites.  Stay outside of orange cones, construction fencing and chain link fenced areas.

  • Use Only Designated Walkways: Always Walk on sidewalks or designated walkways and be aware of construction and direction signs.

  • Stop, look and listen:  Listen or watch for instructions by construction workers or flaggers.  Pay attention to construction signs.

  • Look Before Crossing:  Always stop, look, and listen for vehicles before crossing streets.

  • Avoid Distractions: Avoid distractions while walking near traffic or construction zones.
