Next week, the City of Salinas will install temporary, portable traffic signals at the intersection of Boronda Road and McKinnon Street.
The switch-over will take place the morning of Tuesday September 23rd with the signal becoming fully operational by midday. The temporary signal system will have pedestrian buttons and streetlights to illuminate the crosswalks and pavement markings at the intersection.
The existing signals will be removed overnight on Thursday September 25th.During the switch-over and signal removal lights will be set to flash with flaggers directing traffic.
Please drive with extra caution. The new portable signals are much shorter than the existing signals.
Once activated, the temporary signals will have special timing to help manage school traffic more effectively during peak hours.
Please be aware and expect delays during this period. The City of Salinas encourages all drivers to give themselves extra time for their commutes, especially during school drop-off and pick-up hours.
This work is part of the ongoing Boronda Road project. The project is designed to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists at this intersection by constructing a roundabout.  The temporary signals will be in place for the remainder of Phase 1 (until mid-October 2025) and throughout Phase 2 (until mid-March 2026).
