McKinnon at Boronda Closure Effective February 13th
Published on February 11, 2026
The next stage of the Boronda Rd Congestion Relief Project is schedule to begin on Friday, February 13, 2026.
Residents should be aware of the following impacts related to temporary overnight work, sidewalk closures, and shifting of traffic lanes on Boronda:
- On the evening of Friday, February 13th, crews will begin overnight work to close McKinnon at Boronda and begin installation of temporary sidewalk. The overnight work is expected to continue through the morning of Saturday, February 14th. The date to begin this stage was moved up from the originally planned date of Tuesday, February 17th to avoid delays due to the upcoming rain.
- Pedestrians will be unable to cross Boronda Rd at McKinnon due to the closure and shifting of traffic lanes for this stage of the Project.
- Santa Rita Union School District and McKinnon Elementary School started a new temporary bus route at the beginning of the month for the students who regularly walk to school from the adjacent neighborhood.
- The sidewalk along Boronda at a point between El Dorado/McKinnon to Dartmouth will be closed. Pedestrians will need to walk through the neighborhood between these streets during this stage due to the sidewalk closure.
- Traffic can continue to travel in both directions along Boronda. However, as the lanes will be temporarily shifted, please slow down, watch for personnel, and follow all directional signs.
For safe access to McKinnon School, a temporary asphalt path has been constructed on the north side of Boronda from Lowe’s to McKinnon. Pedestrians can cross Boronda at Dartmouth to access the temporary path. Additionally, a new temporary marked crosswalk near the school driveway will be added. All pedestrian detours will be marked and signed for pedestrian safety. Parents and students walking to school should plan for an extra 15 to 30 minutes of walking time.

Phase 1 of the Boronda Road Congestion Relief Project is being done in three stages. Phase 1, Stage 1 included construction of the north side of Boronda and is substantially completed. Much of the work done during Stage 1 was preparatory for the construction of the roundabout, including underground work and site preparation.
Phase 1, Stage 2 includes construction of the south side of Boronda and temporary closure of the southside of the intersection of McKinnon at Boronda from February 13, 2026, to Spring/Summer of 2026. As with all construction projects, timelines may change based on weather conditions.
